Are you afraid of failures?

ByHanna Shiferaw

Failures happen in anyone’s life. There is nothing much in this to talk about. But the big question is on how you deal with your failures. Some people fail and stay failed forever. Others fail, then start a new beginning, and will be able to see a better tomorrow. Your response to your failures is what really matters in your life, not the failures by themselves.

There was a glorious king called David, who, despite his status, was always willing to admit his failures, and able to start new beginnings. He never let his failures keep him from becoming who he wanted to be. Here is one of his failure stories by which he didn’t let to ruin his life.

“One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, "Isn't this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite?" Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her….. Then she went back home. The woman conceived and sent word to David, saying, "I am pregnant."” 2 Samuel 11:2-5

The country was at war and this woman’s husband was one of David’s men who were fighting up front. King David tried to cover his crime by calling him (her husband) from the war front and made him sleep with his wife. But he refused because he thought it is shameful that he went to his home and lie with his wife while his fellow men are camped in the open fields. Then, David let him killed in the war and made the woman his wife.

King David was punished for his crime. However, he was able to admit his failure and ask apology. He didn’t stay failed forever. He was able to learn from his mistake and start a new beginning again. He comforted the woman and has another child who was strong enough to be his successor.  In addition, he was willing that his failures be written and lessons for us.

Don’t let your failures keep you from reaching your target. Failures are new beginnings. Learn from your mistakes so that you can be able to see a better tomorrow.
